2 Bethan Gray, Ashgrove Surgery

The pharmacy technician whose positivity kept her team going during the COVID-19 pandemic

Bethan Gray’s quiet dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic kept her team’s spirits high during some of the most difficult months in living memory.

Having joined Ashgrove Surgery as its first pharmacy technician in March 2020, Bethan was thrown from the frying pan into the fire as COVID-19 started to sweep the nation.

But that’s not all. Just two days before the first lockdown was announced, her manager Elanor Thomas was diagnosed with breast cancer, rendering her unable to work for 12 months as a clinically vulnerable person during the pandemic.

Undaunted, Bethan got to work, helping to develop processes to manage repeat prescriptions that lessened pressure on an already overworked clinical team.

“She often took work from others with no announcement and never sought any reward or praise,” says Ms Thomas. “I know that Beth made the life of anyone involved in medicines management in our practice a bit easier and has sought no glory or recognition.

“I'm not sure if she is aware that anyone noticed – but they did.”
