When a “very distressed and upset” patient who had overdosed on his medication entered this Day Lewis pharmacy and told the team he had previously attempted to die by suicide and wanted to do it again, they leapt into action.

Pharmacist manager Masih took the patient into the consultation room, calmed him down and called the first response team for help, who subsequently called the patient an ambulance.

After the patient left the pharmacy and tried to harm themselves with a knife, accuracy checking technician Toni consoled the patient, kept him calm and walked him home while they waited for the ambulance.

The patient rang the pharmacy two days later to thank the team for their quick thinking and compassion, which had ultimately saved his life.
